LEARNING TO LOVE

This, their first full album, is a rich and beautiful collection of songs representing a coming-of-age journey.  It is a gratifying and generous glimpse into their individual, sometimes fun-loving, often vulnerable, heartfelt observations.  These songs represent the transition from the hopes and fears of their youth into a maturing understanding of the human and enduring story of life and love.

Mr. Veneer

Under the sycamore tree,

or in a boat out at sea

The wind carries to me

All your city noise

I wandered up to the mountain

I flew to Timbuktu

But, however hard I try

My thoughts come back to you

Hello, Mr. Veneer,

Must you lie to me?

I’m an honest soul

And I won’t let you choke on your own tears

Asking for forgiveness

I watched the northern lights

They told me to be patient

To bide my time

So I listen to the wind

I try to understand

And from here on in

I'll be roaming this land

Hello, Mr. Veneer,

Must you lie to me?

I’m an honest soul

And I won’t let you choke on your own tears

I’m no longer running

I’m no longer searching

For something I already have

For something I already have

Hello, Mr. Veneer,

Must you lie to me?

I’m an honest soul

And I won’t let you choke on your own tears

Hello, Mr. Veneer,

Must you lie to me?

I’m an honest soul

And I won’t let you choke on your own tears

Eyes Like Mine

Two hurricanes brought me early

Into a world of fear and worry

But with eyes like mine, you’ll always calm me down

This life moves a little too quickly

Now that I’ve grown into my shoes

But with hands like mine, you’ll always hold me fast

If ever I go and roam

I’ll never find myself alone

Cause with a mind like mine,

you’ll always show me I’m home

Two hurricanes brought me early

Into a world of fear and worry

But with eyes like mine, you’ll always calm me down

Now I’m singing this song to you

And I think it’s only fitting too

That I sing it with a voice just like your own

Love On Delay

What’s with this 21st-century inability

To say what we want to say what we mean

You know I care what’s behind those eyes

You know I care I won’t patronize

So we stare across screens, our love it’s on delay

And I’m learnin’ how to make a journey your way

You know that time doesn’t cause growth

Unless we till the ground

And these growing pains aren’t as easy as they sound

And You say to me...

What’s with your 21st-century inability

To say what you want to say what you mean

You know I care what’s behind those eyes

You know I care I won’t patronize

So why don’t we wake from this slumber

You know that we can’t wait any longer

Darling, we could die from the weight of this thing

So why don’t we wake from this slumber

You know that we can’t wait any longer

Darling, we could die from this fatal machine

But there’s a comfort in knowing

We’re not the first on this road

I’m adding songs and letters

To the pile that’s been there before

And they create a reminder of a hope for what’s unseen

That maybe there’s a beauty in this in-between

What’s with our 21st-century inability

To share what we dream to say what we believe

Someone cares what’s behind those eyes

This love is bigger and truer

Than we could fantasize

Rosie

Rosie knows what she believes

Rosie doesn’t care what other people think

Rosie she’d be fine if her love walked away

She never liked him anyway

Oooh Rosie

She’d talk circles around any man

Just to prove she can

Say a prayer before you get into her car

She knows the back roads of Wisconsin like

She knows her own left hand

She knows the name of every dog breed

And things I’ll never understand

She’ll solve the problems of the world someday

Just leave it to Rosie

Rosie knows what she believes

Rosie doesn’t care what other people think

Rosie she’d be fine if her love walked away

She never liked him anyway

Oooh Rosie

You’d never see her cry

But she hates to say goodbye

The devil couldn't fool her if he tried

And she’d tell you you look bad today

Before she’d ever tell a lie

Just leave it to Rosie

Ooooh Rosie

Just leave it to Rosie (Ooooh Rosie)

Leave it Rosie, just leave it Rosie (Ooooh Rosie)

Leave it Rosie, leave it Rosie (Ooooh Rosie)

Leave it Rosie, leave it Rosie

Leave it Rosie, leave it Rosie

Leave it Rosie, Ooooh Rosie

Truth Be Told

If I were a man without a chest

If some little pest

Had hollowed out the rest

Of my soul

If this feeling isn’t true

Only bluebells are blue

And one and one makes two

Where would we be

The story would be over before it began

I could have ripped apart the fragile parts

Of a wondrous plan

All because I did not trust

The hands I was in

'Cause I was scared of what might grow

I was scared, oh truth be told

I was scared to lose control

When I realized

I’m not the gardener

I threw my ideas to the wind

But they blew back in my face

I thought I knew my place

Oh sweet change

Now love, we’ve made it to the year I feared

One thing is clear

These days will be held dear

The story would be over before it began

I could have ripped apart the fragile parts

Of a wondrous plan

All because I did not trust

The hands I was in

'Cause I was scared of what might grow

I was scared, oh truth be told

I was scared to lose control

When I realized

I’m not the gardener

When I realized

I am not the gardener

Sleep Deprived

Maybe I'm just sleep deprived

Or maybe I miss you more than I realized

Your laugh your smile your voice

Your arm wrapped tight around me

No place I'd rather be

Never thought I'd know a man

So strong, humble and kind

So much like Christ

That when I met you then I knew

I didn't want to spend a life without you

So I say thank you Lord for this gift I don't deserve

Thank you Lord for this gift, he's all Yours

I'm not sure why I get to love you but I do

The same man who loves the Lord and inspires me Chooses me too

I don't expect life to be easy for you and for me

But I don't fear

I'm ready to face the trials next to you, next to you

Because you and I we've got that C.S. Lewis kind of love

So I say thank you Lord for this gift I don't deserve

Thank you Lord for this gift, he's all Yours

I want to hold him and care for him

Just as You care for me

Gracias Dios por este regalo que no merezco

Gracias Dios por este regalo, él es Tuyo

Maybe I'm just sleep deprived

Or maybe I love you more than I realize

Wedding Blessing

May you be guided by wisdom beyond

May you be steady in faith and in love

May you be open to see and to grow

May you find joy in life and in home

May your love be sweet like wine

May your hearts be as three cords tied

May your passion be nurtured in love

And may your faithfulness keep you strong

May you be known and give room for joy

May laughter always inhabit your home

May what's important rise above

May loving kindness always strengthen your bond

May your resentments never live long

May patience give hope when there is none

May God’s peace overflow in your home

And may His presence fill your lives like song

May your love be sweet like wine

May your hearts be as three cords tied

May your passion be nurtured in love

And may your faithfulness keep you strong

May we support you when you need it most

May we bring love so you’ll never feel alone

May we bring joy to share in your home

May our friendship be evident and strong

May your love be sweet like wine

May your hearts be as three cords tied

May your passion be nurtured in love

And may your faithfulness keep you strong
